2019 Día de De Los Muertos Celebración Car Exhibition Application
in Lubbock, Texas

Los Hermanos Familia believes that cultural awareness through art helps to build confidence and understanding of culture. As such, for the seventh year, the West Texas Latino Artist Art Show & Día de Los Muertos Celebración is being organized in Lubbock, Texas. The event will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2019, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. It will showcase the work of Latino artist, offer a cultural experience through local performers – traditional and modern, and music of various genres. The event will also hold a unique Día de Los Muertos cake decorating contest; a best-decorated car contest; showcase altars and ofrenda exhibits; offer products from participating vendors; as well as provide children’s activities that offer cultural understanding. Because we've grown, we're holding the event at the Science Spectrum, and hope that we can count on your involvement. We look forward to your participation! ¡Con animo!

Día de De Los Muertos Art Exhibition & Celebración de Lubbock


CAR/TRUCK/MOTORCYCLE SPACE: Spaces are issued in 10 x 20-foot sizes, additional car or truck space may be available for an additional cost. No vehicle will be allowed in (or to compete) one (1) hour before even begins due to venue restrictions. Support vehicles/trailers must be removed from garage door entry one (1) hour before show time. NO ITEMS CAN BE SOLD unless a vendor space is purchased. 


DISPLAYS: All displays must be completed before the opening of the show.
Cars MUST include the following three iconic symbols related to Dia de Los Muertos:
1) Skulls / Sugar skulls (in any form) 2) Marigold Flower(s) 3) Monarch Butterfly
BONUS POINTS: Other options to consider but not required: Papel Picado, Pan de Muerto, Sacred Heart


JUDGING/COMPETITIONS Two types NOTE: Each car will be numbered.

2) People's Choice

 

Official Car Judges will judge car decorations based on:

  • Cultural history/tradition
  • Originality/creativity
  • Artistic execution

TEAR DOWN: Displays may not be torn down until the end of the event at 5:15 p.m. No one may start an engine, move a vehicle until instructed to do so by Event Organizers or facility staff or security. This safety rule will be enforced to protect the audience and children.
